Este artigo analisa a experiência do Projeto Axé, que atende a meninos e meninas de rua em Salvador, capital do Estado da Bahia, e que vem se tornando conhecido nacional e internacionalmente. O texto se reporta à trajetória, às orientações e às práticas do projeto, aos seus êxitos, dificuldades e limitações, refletindo, a partir do mesmo, sobre o papel das chamadas organizações não governamentais no enfrentamento das questões sociais no mundo contemporâneo.

THE AXÉ PROJECT: an Experimental Report

This article analyzes the experience of the Axé‚ Project which takes care of street children in Salvador, capital of the State of Bahia, and that is becoming known nationally and internationally. The text reports the project's trajectory, orientations and practice, its successes, difficulties and limitations, reflecting, starting from these, on the role of the so-called non-governmental organizations in facing social questions in the contemporary world.
