Este trabalho discute representações sobre a mulher no imaginário brasileiro, em particular as mulheres índias e negras, detendo-se, particularmente, em dois momentos: a colonização portuguesa e o momento do estabelecimento do Brasil-Nação. A instituição imaginária da sociedade brasileira se desenha, esboçando, ao mesmo tempo, a figura feminina dentro de um molde marcado pelas representações hegemônicas, que hesitam em incorporar outros modelos de mulher existentes em cada período. Aponta para a presença de um padrão de construção desse imaginário apoiado na ambigüidade e indica o interesse de considerar tais aspectos vistos historicamente, para chegarmos a entender representações circulantes na sociedade nos dias de hoje.

REPRESENTATION OF WOMEN IN THE BRAZILIAN IMAGINARY: FROM COLONIZATION TO THE SPRINGING UP OF THE NATION

This paper addresses representations of women in the Brazilian imaginary, particularly of Indian and Black women, focusing specifically on two instances: the Portuguese colonization and the establishment of the Nation-Brazil. The imaginary institution of the Brazilian society is drawn, along a simultaneous outlining of the female figure within a pattern marked by hegemonic representations, which hesitate in incorporating other existing female patterns in each period. It points out to the presence of the building up of such pattern supported by ambiguity, and it indicates the interest in considering such aspects through a historical perspective in order to allow an understanding of the representations which are present nowadays.
